Experimental study on the insulin-sensitivity-increasing effect of berberine in insulin resistant rat models
摘要
Objective: To observe the effects of berberine on insulin sensitivity in high-fat-fed rats. Methods: Before and after ingesting berberine
glucose insulin tolerance test was used to measure the insulin sensitivity
and to determine the fasting blood glucose
insulin
blood lipid and muscle triglyceride content. Results: Compared with normally fed rats
high-fat-fed rats had their insulin sensitivity lowered (K value 5.02 ± 1.08 vs 8.72+0.91
P <0.005)
level of liver glycogen decreased and levels of fasting blood glucose
insulin
lipid and muscle triglyceride content raised. Berberine and metformin improved insulin resistance (K value 6.31 ± 0. 95 and 6.24 ± 0.65) and liver glycogen level in insulin resistant models
though they had no effect on blood glucose
insulin
lipid levels and muscle triglyceride depots. Conclusion: It is confirmed that berberine had similar effect in raising insulin sensitivity of high-fat-fed rats.
