Abstract:The effect of Heart-protecting Musk Pill (HMP) on blood perfusion of the ischemic myocardium by intravenous dipyridamole99m Tc-sestamibi single photon emission computerized tomography (99mTc-MIBISPECT) in 17 patients with coronary heart disease was observed. Results showed that sublingual administration of HMP prior to injection of dipyridamole could remit the cardiac symptoms induced by dipyridamole, such as angina, chest distress, etc. with a remission rate of 85%. HMP could also improve the SPECT image defect significantly, 8 of 11 cases with reversible image defects and 4 of 6 irreversible image defects were improved. It suggested that HMP could improve the blood perfusion of the ischemic myocardium, the total effective rate was 70.59%. No adverse reaction was found.
Abstract:The leucocytic glucocorticoid receptors (GCR) were estimated in 20 patients with Yang-Deficiency Syndrome using a radioligand binding method and plasma cortisol was measured at the same time. Results showed that the levels of plasma cortisol and leucocytic GCR of patients were all significantly lower than the healthy control group, and the changes were more significant in 10 cases of hypofunction of endocrinopathy with manifestation of Yang-Deficiency and Yang-Deficiency patients aged <40 years. The mechanism and relationship between GCR and plasma cortisol were also discussed in this article.
Abstract:Twenty patients of chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) were treated with such kind of Chinese herbal medicine as invigorating Qi and promoting blood circulation for 4—8 weeks. The therapeutic effect was observed and compared with that of the two control groups treated with prednisone and coenzyme A respectively. In the TCM group, the number of patients with marked effect, good effect and improvement were 2,4 and 7, the total effective rate being 65%. This efficacy was higher than that of the coenzyme group and lower than that of the prednisone group. The changes of antiplatelet lgG antibody and haptoglobin were also observed in the meantime, and results showed that after TCM treatment, both of them were decreased as disease improved.

Abstract:This article reports the effects of pure Radix Astragali preparation (PAP) in treating 115 cases of leucopenia. These cases were divided at random into two groups. Group A (58 cases) was treated by highly concentrated PAP, every 10 ml equal to 15 grams of Radix Astragali (RA), group B (57 cases) was treated by lowly concentrated PAP, every 10 ml equal to 5 g of RA. The patients took the PAP twice a day, 10 ml each time. The course of treatment was 8 weeks for both groups. The results showed there was an obvious increase of the WBC counts in both groups after treatment (P<0.001). The effectiveness in group A was 82.76%, while in group B 47.37%, they were statistically different (P<0.01). The total effective rate of the 2 groups was 65.22%. According to the comparison average WBC counts after treatment of group A was significantly higher than that of group B (P<0.05). The results were dose-dependent. The author holds that RA is an effective drug in treating leucopenia, and increasing the dosage could enhance its effectiveness.

Abstract:Forty-five patients with class IV cardiac function were divided randomly into three groups, group I (digoxin group), group II (red Ginseng group) and group III (red Ginseng plus digoxin group). Each group consisted of 15 cases. After treatment, the improvement of the hemodynamical and biochemical indexes of group II and group III were greater than those of group I, and that of group III was the most significant amongst all. The results suggested that red Ginseng and digoxin had synergism for treatment of congestive heart failure, and red Ginseng was an effective and safe adjuvant without any side effects.
Abstract:One hundred forty-four patients of cancer pain were treated with external application of Qu Tong Ling, and the effect of pain remission was observed. The total remission rate was 79. 2% with the maintaining time of 6.42 ± 1.24 hours, proving it was superior to butycinnamyl pyrazirum.

Abstract:This paper studied the effect and side-effect of epidural injected Lappaconitine (LC) for postoperative analgesia. 50 patients who were operated in the upper abdomen with epidural anesthesia, were randomly divided into 5 groups. The general condition of each group was similar. Group A, B, C was given LC 4mg, 8mg, 12mg respectively for observation. Group D,E was given 0.9% NS 6ml and morphine 2mg individually as control. When the operation was finished, LC was injected into the epidural space with single blind method. The result showed the analgesia of LC and its effective time was: group E>C>B>A>D. The analgesic effect of group C was satisfactory. The efficacy and the maintenance time of A, B, C groups were significantly different from that of group D(P<0.05, P<0.01). Although the effect of group C was less potent than that of group E (morphine injection), there was no side-effect like that of morphine. It suggested that epidural injected LC for post-operative analgesia is effective and safe.
Abstract:Sixty-eight cases of Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus complicated with Nephropathy were randomly divided into two groups: the treated group, 35 cases treated with alcohol extraction of Flos A-belmoschus manihot, Gliclazide and Captopril Tablets; and the control group, 33 cases treated with Gliclazide and Captopril Tablets, over a period of 8 weeks. The total effective rate in the treated and control group were 83.87% and 31.03% respectively (P<0.01), urinary micro-albumin were 31.7 and 76.3mg/L (P<0.05), proteinuria were 0.41 and 0.77g/24hr (P<0.01), blood β-microglobulin were 3317.8 and 3473. 1 hg/ml (P<0.05), urinary β-microglobulin were 367.2 and 641.5ng/ml (P<0.01), urinary N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase (NAG) were 26.3 and 66. 7u/L (P<0.01), plasma lipid peroxide (LPO) were 6.13 and 8.78 nmol/L (P<0. 05), and plasma superoxide anion were 8.36 and 10.42 kcpm respectively (P<0.05). It was suggested that alcohol extraction ofAbelmoschus manihot could eliminate oxygen free radicals, alleviate renal tubular-interstitial diseases, improve renal function, and reduce proteinuria.
Abstract:Compound Radix Salvia Miltiorrhizae injection was administered after operation for 28 cases of severe pancreatitis, and 13 cases were taken as a control group. The results showed that: (1) The difference was not obvious in the morbidity of complications between the two groups, but the mortality (3.6%) of the trial group was significantly lower than that (30.8%) of the control group (P < 0.05); (2) Hematocrit was clearly decreased from 46.1 ± 5. 2% to 33. 2 ± 3. 9% in the trial one (P < 0. 05), but platelet and hemoglobin showed no statistical significance. It is concluded that compoundSalvia miltiorrhizae injection might improve hemorheologic abnormalities of the disease, promote the recovery of the pancreatic tissue, and correct the serious complications such as adult respiratory distress syndrome etc.
Abstract:The therapeutic effect of Jiang Tang San (JTS) on 30 cases with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), was observed, whose fasting blood glucose ranged from 11. 1 mmol/L to 13. 8 mmol/L. The results suggested that JTS has significant effect on NIDDM patients in lowering blood glucose, blood lipid and blood pressure levels. Clinical symptoms and blood glucose improved rapidly. JTS promoted the elevation of serum insulin level 1 hour after meal. The total effective rate of lowering blood glucose reached 86.7%. The results showed JTS is better than berberine on lowering blood glucose (P<0.01) and when patients failed to respond to other hypoglycemics or on recurrence JTS was still effective. There were no marked side-effects during the course of treatment.
Abstract:One hundred and twenty-eight patients with active peptic ulcer were treated with Xilei powder for 4 weeks, their PGE2 levels in both serum and gastro-duodenal mucosa were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.01). The rate of negative conversion of Helicobacter pylori (HP) showed in 63.3% of cases. The distributed density of HP significantly reduced (P<0.01). These results indicated that Xilei powder could heal ulcer probably owing to the increasing of the PGE2 level in gastro-duodenal mucose, and inhibiting the growth and reproduction of HP so that to eliminate the HP, but did not owing to inhibit the gastric acid secretion and the release of gastrin.
Abstract:Comparative study on effects of electro-stimulation on electrogastrogram (EGG) in 60 cases of gastric and duodenal ulcers was conducted. It was confirmed that electro-stimulation on auriculo-stomach point could reduce the EGG amplitude at the gastric antrum and corpus in ulcer patients (P<0.01); while no effect could be found with electro-stimulation of Auriculo-Heart point and with supine posture only (P >0.05). All three methods had no effects on EGG frequency at the gastric antrum and corpus (P>0.05). It was suggested that electrostimulation at Auriculo-Stomach point might be of certain therapeutic effect on patients with peptic ulcer.

Abstract:The changes of the positive rate in cases with frequency domain-correlative cardiogram (FCG) ≥ grade 7 were evaluated with electrocardiographic autopower spectrum function before and after Qigong exercise. Seventeen subjects, aged from 54 to 72 (mean 66), 5 males and 12 females, underwent Qigong exercises for 65 to 103 days, and were tested by FCG to compare with pre Qigong exercise status. The results show the positive rate of abnormal elecctrocardiographic autopower spectrum function of lead V5 (Gxx 1/2) decreased from 59% (10/17) to 0% (0/17) and lead II (GYY 1/2) decreased from 82% (14/ 17) to 41% (7/17),P<0.01 and 0.05. This study suggests Qigong exercises could significantly decrease the positive rate of abnormal electrocardiographic autopower spectrum function and improve coronary perfusion or left ventricular dysfunction produced by myocardial ischemia.

Abstract:The protective effect of the traditional Chinese compound medicine Yuxingtong (YXT) in capsule form on the experimental acute myocardial ischemia formation has been studied in dogs. The plasma endothelin concentration and serum creatine phosphokinase activity were measured after coronary occlusion in different medication groups and compared with the saline control group. Results showed that YXT could significantly lowered the plasma endothelin concentration and the serum creatine phosphokinase activity, it suggested that both YXT and diltiazem have the similar protective effect on acute myocardial ischemia and necrosis in dogs.
Abstract:Here was investigated the effect of Radix Astragalus Membranaceus (AM) on Ca2+ influx across the myocardial plasma membrane and coxsackie virus B3(CVB3)-RNA replication in cultured neonatal rat heart cells infected with CVB3. It was found that the Ca2+ influx could be inhibited significantly by AM both in heart cells infected with CVB3 for 48 hours and in normal control heart cells. In addition, the Ca2+ influx and the amounts of CVB3-RNA in myocytes simultaneously infected with CVB3 and treated with AM for 48 hours were statistically decreased compared with that in CVB3-infected control cells. These phenomena suggested that AM could exert the effects of decreasing the secondary Ca2+ damages, improving the abnormal myocardial electric activity and inhibiting replication of CVB3-RNA in myocardium. Thus, it is a rational choice to treat patients with AM in viral myocarditis.
Abstract:Qiwei Baizhu San was found to have an inhibitory effect on human rotavirus at monolayers of MA104 cells. A 50% reduction in plaque number, a 101.86 TCID50 decrease in viral replication index and an around 60% inhibition in viral RNA synthesis were observed at concentration of 100 mg/ml. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of the decoction was low, while its promoting effect on growth and proliferation of the culture cells was observed at the concentrations of 12.5~50 mg/ml. The decoction was also found to have effects in prolonging the survival time of infected cells with rotavirus and promoting the regeneration of the infected cells.
Abstract:In order to prevent ototoxicity of kanamycin (KM), the effects of Poria Cocos (PC) on the ototoxicity induced by KM in guinea-pigs was observed by giving the PC decoction to guinea-pigs with comparing the difference in the general intoxicating symptom, Prayer’s reflex (PR) threshold, brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) and the absence rate of outer hair cells in the first turn of cochlea. The results suggested that the ototoxicity of KM was retarded by PC decoction. On the 7th day after KM was given, PR threshold of 4, 6, 8 kHz in the medicated group and control group were 4.7±1.5 dB, 5.7±2.4 dB, 2.7± 1.2 dB and 10.5 ± 3.2 dB, 12.1±3.7 dB, 8.5±2.7 dB respectively. BAEPs threshold on the 13th day after KM was given, raised 22.7 ± 9.7 dB in the PC group and 51.3 ± 14.4 dB in the control group. The absence rate of outer hair cells in the first turn of cochlea were 39.4% and 67.4% respectively. The results suggested that PC might be antagonistic to the ototoxicity of KM in guinea-pigs.
