Abstract:Objective: To study on Fuzheng Baozhen Decoction (FZBZD) enhancing effect of radio- and chemotherapy for malignant tumors. Methods: One hundred and Seventeen cases of malignant tumors treated with chemotherapy or/and radiotherapy. Among them 55 cases were treated together with FZBZD (group A), 30 cases together with Zhenqi Fuzheng Granules (group B), and the other 32 cases treated with radio- and chemotherapy alone (group C). Mechanism of FZBZD enhancing effect of chemotherapy in treating transplanted human lung adenocarcinoma (SPC-A-1) and sarcoma (S180) bearing mice was conducted experimentally. Results: Effective rates (CR+PR) of group A, B and C were 63.6%, 43.3% and 37.5% respectively, that of group A being the best (P < 0.05). The survival quality of life was improved the most in group A (P < 0.05). The picture of peripheral blood (WBC, Hb, PLT count) of group A after treatment was better than that of the other two groups (P < 0.05). And CD3, CD4, NK activity, interleukin-2 levels were also improved more significantly in group A (P < 0.01) than those in the other two. Animal experiment showed that FZBZD could improve the effect of chemotherapy in inhibiting tumor growth (P < 0.01), raising cAMP/cGMP ratio (P < 0. 01) by increasing the cAMP level in cancer tissue, and enhancing cells ofG0/G1 phase and reducing cells of S phase. Conclusion: FZBZD inhibited tumor growth and enhanced the effect of radio- and chemotherapy by improving immune and hematopoietic function, cAMP/cGMP ratio and halting tumor cells in G0/G1 phase.

Abstract:Objective: To probe the relationship between survival period and immune function of hepatic carcinoma patients after embolization chemotherapy. Methods: One hundred and eight patients of hepatocarcinoma were randomly divided into three groups. Group A was treated by embolization chemotherapy (ECT) alone, immunotherapy and Chinese herbal medicine were given to Group B and C respectively after ECT.Results: The short-term effective rate of Group A, B and C was 61.1%, 83.3% and 80.6% respectively, the three-year survival rate 28.6%, 39.1% and 47.3%, and the median survival time 11 months, 17 months and 15 months respectively. Observation on immune function after treatment showed that patients who received ECT alone had a lower immunity while those who received immunotherapy or Chinese herbal medicine had a strengthened immunity. Conclusion: Survival period of hepatocarcinoma patients is related with their immune function, strengthening patients’ immunity could extend their survival period relatively.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of Composite Divitriol Infusion (CDI) in treating tinea manum and study its antimycotic action. Methods: CDI was used to treat 139 patients with tinea manum and compared with Tinea Unguium Infusion in treating 77 cases as control. The experimental study in vivo was done, and electron microscopy (EM) was used to observe the therapeutical effect of CDI.Results: Among the 139 patients of the CDI group, 104 were cured, 21 markedly effective, 10 improved and 4 ineffective, the cure and markedly effective rate being 89.9%. The difference of effect between the CDI group and the control group was significant statistically (X 2>12.84,P < 0.005). The antimycotic action of CDI was studied in vitro. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of CDI were about 0.25% for Trichophyton rubrum and 0.5% for Trichophyton gypseum and Microsporum gypseum. Trichophyton rubrum immersed with CDI showed that the mycelia became roughened, deformed, and macroconidium became smaller under EM.Conclusion: CDI is valuable in treating tinea manum.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the mechanisms of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine (TCM-WM) in treating sudden deafness. Methods: One hundred and forty-six patients suffered from sudden deafness were divided into two groups, 64 cases in the treated group were treated with TCM-WM therapy and the other 82 cases treated with western medicine alone for control. Results: The total effective rate of the treated group was 92.19%, that of the control group was 75.61%. The difference between the two groups was significant,P < 0.01.Conclusion: The TCM-WM therapy is very effective in treating sudden deafness. Its mechanism might be: (1) Decrease of the blood viscosity and increase of the red blood cell’s tenacity, so that the blood stream could pass through unimpededly. (2) Decrease of the plasma TXA2 level and increase of the PGI2 level, to benefit the blood supply for inner ear. (3) Increase of the activity of SOD and clearing away the free radicals so as to reduce the damage to the inner ear.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the law and role of apoptosis inducing effect of allicin on human acute T-lymphocyte leukemia cell line (6T-CEM).Methods: Terminal deoxylnucleotide transferase directed X-UTP nick and end labeling (TUNEL) assay, DNA gel electrophoresis, light microscopy and revers transcription-polymerase chair reaction (RT-PCR) were used to observe apoptosis of cells. Results: Allicin showed significant inducing effect on apoptosis of 6T-CEM cell when the concentration was 0.1 μg/ml, reaching its peak effect when the concentration was 50 μg/ml, with the apoptosis rate as 36.4%. Allicin (15 μg/ml) acted on 6T-CEM for 2 h and induced obvious cell apoptosis, the highest effect reached after 24 h of action, with the apoptosis rate as 56.9%. Actidione or actinomycin D could induce apoptosis of 6T-CEM, the allicin could not enhance their apoptosis inducing effect. Allicin could cause significant reduction of bcl-2 and bax gene expression of 6T-CEM, especially the bcl-2.Conclusion: Allicin could induce cell apoptosis of 6T-CEM with significant time and dose effect. Mechanism of the effect is through inhibiting the bcl-2 gene expression to reduce bcl-2/bax ratio.
