Abstract:Objective: To observe the preventing and treating effect of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Compsita (SMC) in patients with ischemic coronary heart disease (CHD) undergoing non-heart surgery. Methods: One hundred and eight patients were randomly divided into control group and treatment group. During operation, the control group was treated by heteropathy such as nitrate ester, while the treatment group was treated with SMC intravenously. ECG, heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and sphygmous blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and quantity of blood loss were observed during and at the end of the operation. The efficacy of treatment was judged according to the change of ECG.Results: The total effective rate in the treatment group was 90.7% (49/54 cases), while in the control group it was 35.2% (19/54 cases). There was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0. 01). HR of the patients in the treatment group was not changed significantly, but in the control group, it became faster (P < 0.05). No significant difference was found in MAP and SpO2 between the two groups, or in comparison of data before and after operation. Also no significant difference in quantity of blood loss was shown between the two groups. Conclusion: SMC could effectively protect heart function from myocardial ischemia in patients with CHD undergoing non-heart surgery, neither shows any side effect. Therefore, it is an effective and safe measure.

Abstract:Objective: To assess the effect of Xinmaitong (XMT) capsule in treating coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods: The 38 patients of coronary heart disease with myocardial ischemia were divided randomly into XMT group (20 cases) and control group (18 cases). Conventional western medical therapy was given to both groups and the XMT group received XMT treatment in addition. The changes of endothelin (ET) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) levels, ST segment of ECG and clinical symptoms after treatment in all the patients were observed. 14 healthy persons were taken as normal control. Results: The ET level of all patients was significantly higher than that of normal control (P < 0. 001), and level of CGRP in patients was not significantly different from normal (P > 0. 05). After treatment, results showed that: (1) The ET levels and the scores of clinical symptoms of both groups decreased significantly (P < 0. 01), and the depressed ST segment elevated markedly (P < 0.01) as compared with that before treatment, and the changes revealed more evidently in XMT group in comparison with those in the control group (P < 0. 05~0. 01). (2) The level of CGRP was significantly increased in XMT group (P < 0. 01) while it was unchanged in the control group (P > 0. 05).Conclusion: Thereis a severs damage of vascular endothelial cells (VEC) in patients of coronary heart disease. XMT could not only reduce significantly the plasma ET content, but also enhance markesdly the production and release of CGRP, so it has a good anti-ischemic effect, which may be closely correlated with its action on improving the function of VEC and regulating metabolism of ET and CGRP.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the effect of Acanthopanacis Senticosi in treating acute cerebral infarction and its mechanism. Methods: Clinical study using single-blind, control trial, in which 60-80 ml of Acanthopanax Injection (AI) added to 500 ml of 0.9% normal saline were given by intravenous drip once a day for 14 days in the AI group, while 500 ml of low molecular dextran were given in the same way to the control group. In experimental study, rabbit model of acute incomplete cerebral ischemia was made by ligation of bilateral common carotid artery. 10 ml of AI were given once daily intravenously for 7 days to the AI group and 10 ml of normal saline was given to the control group in the same way. Clinical effects (in clinical study) and effect of AI on cerebral oxygen free radicals (OFR), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and serum concentration of ACTH and cortisone were all observed (in experimental study). Results: The total effective rate in the AI group was higher than that in the control group while nervous functional deficit score was lower in the AI group than that in the control group significantly. The cerebral level of OFR, serum level of ACTH and cortisone decreased while SOD increased after treatment in AI group. Conclusion: AI was effective in treating acute cerebral infarction, the mechanism is probably by ameliorating peroxidation in brain and improving hypothalamic-pituitary-a-drenocortical axis function.

Abstract:Objective: To observe the effects of Xin’an capsule (XAC) on experimental ventricular arrhythmia (EVA) in animals and to explore the possible mechanism. Methods: Three types of animal arrhythmic model (ventricular arrythmia in guinea pigs induced by Ouabin, in rats caused by reperfusion after ligation of descending anterior branch of coronary artery and by CaCl2) were used to study the effects of XAC on ventricular arrhythmia (VA).Results: After XAC treatment, the dosage of Ouabin needed for inducing ventricular premature beat (VPB), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) increased in guinea pigs. The sustaining time of reperfusion induced VT and total occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias decreased. XAC also showed an effect in increasing CaCl2 dosage needed to cause VA, and decreased the occurrence of VF and death in rats

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1) in development of ischemic brain damage after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and the protective effect of Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) on it.Methods: Noncraniotomy SAH models of Wistar rat were divided into SAH group and GBE treated group, the diameter of basilar artery (BA), dynamic changes of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and ET-1 content of in-tracranial plasma within 24 hours after SAH of both groups were determined. And pathological examination of CA1 region of hippocampus was performed 3 days later. Results: rCBF decreased and ET-1 content increased obviously and steadily in 24 hours after SAH. Spasm of BA occurred half an hour after SAH and neurons of hippocampus CA1 region were damaged severely. GBE could antagonize the above-mentioned pathological changes effectively

Abstract:Objective: To explorate the influence of replenishing Kidney herbs on dexamethasone (DXM) or retinoic acid (RA) induced osteoporosis in rats. Methods: Model animal of osteoporosis was made by DXM injection or RA through gastrogavage, and some animals received replenishing Kidney herbs during modelling. Changes of serum calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), estrogen (E), prostaglandin E2(PGE2), 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D3(VD3), uric hydroxyproline (UHP), intestinal calcium absorption, bone ash weight, bone density, bone histopathology as well as the change of intestinal calcium absorption vector-Ca-binding protein D9K (CaBp-D9K) gene and its mRNA expression were examined and compared. Results: DXM or RA could markedly induce bone metabolism disorder, showed as morphologic and histologic changes of bone, in DXM group, decrease of E2, VD3, bone density, bone ash weight, intestinal calcium absorption, increase of PGE2, and in RA group, decrease of serum E2, calcium, phosphate, ALP, UHP, bone density, bone ash weight, and intestinal calcium absorption. These changes could be reduced significantly when rats received replenishing Kidney herbs during modelling, and approached to normal. Conclusion: Osteoporosis induced by long-term application of DXM and low calcium diet feeding is a good animal model for experimental research. Replenishing Kidney herbs could significantly improve bone metabolism disorder induced by DXM or RA
