Abstract:Objective: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of Gandou Tablet I in treating hepatolenticular degeneration (HLD) and its effect on urinary trace element in 24 hours. Thirtyfour patients with HLD took Gandou Tablet I for 4 weeks, their changes of symptoms, signs and daily life pattern were observed closely, and the levels of urinary trace element in 24 hours before the therapy and every week after initiation of treatment were measured. The total effective rate reached 70.59%, with markedly effective rate being 8.82%. The therapeutic effect was much better in the child and mild patients. After treatment, the daily urinary copper output was obviously increased every week compared with that before (P< 0.01). Although it was highly negative linear correlated with the duration of treatment (γ= -0.96,P< 0.05), it has insignificant difference between any two weekly excretion of urinary copper per 24 hours after treatment (P<0.05). So its effect on urinary copper excretion was not decreased. Gandou Tablet I could increase the output of urinary copper, hence it was effective in treating HLD without apparent toxic or side reaction.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate a new method of combined laparoscopy with Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in treating endometrial ovarian cyst. One hundred and fifty-two patients with endometrial ovarian cyst were randomly divided into 3 groups treated with three therapies: combined laparoscopy with CHM (combination group), CHM (TCM group) and danazol (WM group). To compare the clinical efficacy and sideeffects shown by the three groups and to elucidate the therapeutic mechanism by detecting the serum CA125 reproductive endocrine hormone, plasma prostaglandin F2a prostaglandin E2 etc. The shrinking rate, disappearance rate of the cysts and markedly effective rate in the combination group were obviously higher than those in the TCM group and WM group (P< 0.05,P<0.01). The pregnancy rate of combination group was also higher than that of the WM group (P<0.05). Few side-effects constituted the most prominent advantage for the combination group and TCM group. After treatment, the plasma prostaglandin F1a lowered remarkably, serum progesterone increased and CA125 reduced obviously (P<0.01,P<0.05). The laparoscopy and CHM combination therapy is a new method in treating endometrial ovarian cyst which has significant efficacy, minimal adverse effect and maximal preservation of reproductive function.

Abstract:To study the influence of T-suppressor cell activity on habitual abortion (HA) and to observe the regulatory effect of Yangxue Antai Granule (YXATG) on T-suppressor cell and its effect on fetus preservation. T-suppressor cell activities of 56 pregnant women with HA history were tested with method of short life T-suppressor cell activity (MTT method) during early pregnancy, and were followed-up in middle and late pregnancy in 20 cases of them. All the 56 patients received YXATG treatment. Groups of normal early pregnant, normal non-pregnant women and those non-pregnant but with history of habitual abortion were involved in this study as control. T-suppressor cell activity in early pregnancy was lower than that of middle and late pregnancy (P< 0.01,P< 0.001) and also lower than that of the control groups (P<0.01,P< 0.001 ). The successful rate of fetus preservation of YXATG was 98.2 % , and 98.0% of the cases got normal delivery. Low T-suppressor cell activity might be the immunologic etiology of HA. The fetus preservative effect of YXATG might be due to its regulatory effect on T-suppressor cell activity.

Abstract:To observe the effect of Tangweikang Capsule, (TWK) on diabetic nephropathy (DN). The 119 DN patients were divided into two groups: the group of TWK treatment (n=78) and group of captopril (n=41) as the control, the dose of which was 50 mg/d. The treatment lasted for 12 weeks. The changes of symptom score, urinary microprotein series, blood glucose, renal function, etc. were observed. The total effective rate of the TWK group was 84.62% ; and that of the control group. was 70.73% , there was significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). TWK treatment reduced the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, albumin, β -microglobulin and Tamm-Horsfall protein (P<0.05,P<0.01) in DN patients. The levels of triglyceride, angiotensin I , angiotensin II, atrial natriuretic polypeptide, prostaglandins, endothelin, type IV collagen and total cholesterol decreased and the level of high density lipoprotein-cholesterol increased in the serum of TWK-treated DN patients (P<0.05,P<0.01). TWK exerted obviously ameliorating effect on renal function in DN patients.

Abstract:Using the principle of promoting blood circulation to remove stasis to observe central retinal arterial and venous blood flow indexes, and hemorrheology of diabetic retinopathy patients with puerarin. Thirty patients with diabetic retinopathy were randomly divided into the treated group (n= 15) and the control group (n= 15). The treated group was given puerarin 400 mg per day intravenously dripping. The control group was given Mikebao 500 μg intramuscularly, once per day. Both groups were treated for 3 consecutive weeks as one treatment course. Two courses later, hemorrheologic parameters, central retinal arterial and venous blood flow indexes were observed. Comparison before and after treatment showed red blood cell aggregation index, the whole blood viscosity rate, plasma viscosity rate, fibrinogen and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, have all improved obviously (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the control group, there was significant difference (P<0.05, P<0.01). With the treated group before and after treatment, the peak systolic velocity (PSV) of central retinal artery, their end diastolic volume, the acceleration, the central retinal venous reflux velocity have improved respectively. Naked eye visions were also improved, compared with the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.01). Puerarin could reduce blood viscosity, improve microcirculation, and play a positive therapeutic role in diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract:To evaluate the effect of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation combined with Chinese erbal medicine in treating malignant hematopathy. Allo-bone marrow transplantation (allo-BMT) or allo-peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (allo-PBSCT), with conditioning regimen of60Co total body irradiation + Cyclophosphamide (TBI+ Cy) or busulfan + cyclophosphamide (Bu + Cy), was used to treat 4 cases of chronic granulocytic leukemia (CGL, 3 of chronic phase and 1 of accelerating phase) and one case of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). And auto-BMT or auto-PBSCT, with conditioning regimen of myleran + cytosino arabinoside + cyclophosphamide (MAC) or MAC+ VP16, was used to treat 7 cases of hematopathy, including 5 cases of ANLL (3 of CR1 and 2 of CR2) and 2 cases of malignant lymphoma (1 of the first occurrence and 1 of relapse). Chinese herbal medicine was given orally to all the 12 patients after transplantation according to TCM Syndrome Differentiation. All patients were successfully engrafted. Within the median follow-up period of 18 (4-70) months, 1 patient (8.3%) died a transplantation-related death, 3 (25.0%) relapsed and 8 (66.7%) survived free of original disease. CR1 stage of acute leukemia could reduce the relapse rate, when there was no matched bone marow donor; allo-BMT or allo-PBSCT in chronic stage could result in long-term disease-free survival of patients; Chinese herbal medicine administration in patients of malignant hematopathy after transplantation might reduce the complications and plays certain role in promoting recovery of hematopoietic function.

Abstract:To observe the effects of Salvia miltiorrhizae composita (SMC) on blood gas variations of nitroglycerin (NTG) controlled hypotension. Sixteen patients who were arranged to undergo operation under general anesthesia in controlled hypotension condition were randomly divided into the control group (n=8) and the SMC group ( n= 8). NTG was used to create controlled hypotension in both groups and blood pressure decreased by about 30% compared with the control values. Patients in the SMC group were administered intravenously with SMC (16 ml) before the utilization of NTG. Significant PaO2 decrease and Pa-etCO2 increase were observed in the control group during the controlled hypotension period. However, blood gas values in the SMC group did not obviously change. SMC can prevent the side-effects of NTG on blood gas.

Abstract:To seek for a new method of integrated Chinese and western medicine in treating ankylosing spondylitis (AS) to control the disease development, shorten the therapeutic course and lower disability rate. Patients of AS enrolled in this study were 106 cases in Group A, who were persistently treated with traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine (TCM-WM) for over 10 months, 48 cases in Group B treated with WM and 34 cases in Group C treated with non-steroid anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents. They were followed-up for 2 years. (1) Short-term effect: The markedly effective rate in the 3 groups was 73.58% , 47.92% and 5.88% respectively, and the total effective rate was 96.23%, 87.50% and 41.18% respectively. The comparison of Group A with Group B and C showed significant difference, the effect in Group A was superior to that in Group B and Group C (x2 = 10.58, P<0.01 and x2 = 67.76, P<0. 01 respectively). (2) Results of 2-year follow-up: the recurrence rate in Group A was 18.37% (9/49), it was insignificantly different from that in Group B (7/23, 30.43% , x2 = 1 . 32, P >0.05), but significantly different from that in Group C (8/12, 66.67%, x2 = H . 19, P < 0.01). Long-term TCM-WM therapy, which combined the advantages of Chinese and western medicine, was a practical method in treating AS with reliable effect, few side-effects, and therefore is worth popularizing.

Abstract:To explore the clinical effectiveness and therapeutic mechanism of Shuwei Decoction in treating functional dyspepsia (FD). A total of 124 FD patients were randomly divided into two groups: Shuwei Decoction group (60 cases) and the control group (64 cases) treated with cisapride. After one month treatment, all patients were examined with motilin and electrogastrography (EGG). The therapeutic effectiveness of Shuwei Decoction group was much better than that of the control group (P<0. 05), while the changes on motilin and EGG in the two groups were relatively similar (P<0.05). Shuwei Decoction could effectively raise motilin level, promote gastric movement and improve the clinical symptoms in FD patients.

Abstract:To investigate the effect and mechanism of a Chinese herbal formula MG in ameliorating estrogen deficiency bone loss. 10-month old female rats were randomly divided into three groups: ovariectomized (OVX), OVX treated with MG decoction (OVX-M) and OVX treated with estrogen injection (OVX-E). The urinary pyridinoline creatinine ratio (Pyd/Cr), deoxypyridinoline creatinine ratio (Dpd/Cr), and plasma alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were determined at the baseline, 1,4,8 and 12 postoperative weeks. Our data showed an average increase of 93% in Pyd/Cr (P<0.001), 180% inDpd/Cr (P <0.005) and 59% in plasma ALP (P<0.001) respectively in the OVX group after ovariectomy. Compared with OVX rats, the increase of the OVX-M group were prevented 39% in Pyd/Cr, 102% in Dpd/Cr and 19% in ALP respectively (P<0.05). The herbal formula MG possesses a therapeutic effect on estrogen dependent bone loss by inhibiting the bone turnover as estrogen replacement.

Abstract:The effect of prevention and treatment of Xinkang oral liquid, ( , XKOL) on experimental coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) myocarditis mice model were investigated. The mice were inoculated intraperitoneally with 0.3 ml of 105 TCID50 of CVB3 to induce acute viral myocarditis model. These mice were divided into model control group (Group A), prevention high dosage group (Group B) and prevention low dosage group (Group C), treatment high dosage group (Group D) and treatment low dosage group (Group E), respectively. In addition, XKOL control group (Group F) and normal control group (Group G) were not infected with CVB3 intraperitoneally. The administration of XKOL in Group B and C began 2 days before virus infection. All animals were sacrificed on day 20 for evaluation. Histological examination showed extensive myocardial necrosis and cell infiltration in most of Group A mice, but necrosis and cell infiltration were less severe in Group B,C,D and E mice. Thymus weight in Group B,C,D and E mice were heavier and less cell depletion occurred than those in Group A. The XKOL could effectively inhibit myocardial CVB3 replication, reduce the myocardial inflammatory response, lower incidence rate of myocarditis and prevent the disease associated lymphoid organ atrophy in this animal models.

Abstract:To explore the relationship among gastrin, somatostatin and pathogenesis of spleen deficiency syndrome (SDS). The changes of gastrin and somatostatin in body fluid and tissues were measured by radioimmunoassay. G cells (gastrin cells) and D cells (somatostatin cells) of gastroduodenal mucosa were analyzed with polyclonal antibody to gastrin and somatostatin, immunohistochemical technique and Quantimet 500 image analysis system. Sijunzi decoction ( , SJZD) was chosen for counter-confirmation of syndrome. The levels of gastrin in plasma, gastric juice, intestinal juice, gastric antrum, duodenum and hypothalamus of experimental SDS were significantly lowered and somatostatin markedly higher than the control group, which was improved and even better than spontaneous recovery group after prevention and treatment with SJZD (P<0.05). The count of G cells and D cells reduced (P<0.05 ), the area of D cells declined (P<0.05), but mean grey of G cells elevated (P<0.05) and ratio of the count and area on G/D also increased (P<0.05) in experimental SDS, which was improved and even better than spontaneous recovery group after prevention and treatment with SJZD (P<0.05). The study confirmed that disturbance of relationship between gastrin and somatostatin would lead to gastrointestinal disorder, which was one of important causes for pathogenesis of SDS.

Abstract:To explore the relationship between Heart Meridian (HM) and cardiac function. Thirty rabbits with acute myocardial ischemia resulting from intravenous dripping of pituitrin was established. Electroacupuncture (EA) on the HM and the Lung Meridian (LM) was applied, 3 points for each, and their change of end-diastolic intraventricular pressure observed. Obvious difference existed in the improvement of end-diastolic intraventricular pressure on the HM and LM with EA treatment. The regulatory action of EA in HM on the cardiac function was significantly better than that of EA in LM. HM was closely related to the cardiac function.

Abstract:To investigate the effect of New Zhengtian Pill (NZTP) on expression of whole blood platelet membrane adhesion molecules (PMAM) in patients of migraine. Sixty-eight patients were divided into two groups, the 35 patients in the treated group treated by NZTP orally and the 33 patients in the control group treated by Fuguiqin Capsule with a therapeutic course of 30 days for both groups. Changes of PMAM GP II b/III a (CD41) and P-selectin (CD62P) were observed by flow-cytometry and compared with those in healthy persons. The markedly effective rate and total effective rate in the treated group was higher than those in the control group respectively (P<0.05 andP<0.01). The PMAM expression was also higher in patients, both at onset stage and intermittent stage, than in healthy persons (P<0.01), NZTP treatment could reduce their increased expression significantly (P<0.01). NZTP could reduce the PMAM expression and inhibit the activation of platelet.

Abstract:To observe the efficacy of Fluticas one inhalation combined with Jinacon (JNC) orally taken in treating patients of chronic asthma (CA) of moderate degree. as]Methods Seventy-two CA patients were divided into three groups randomly and treated with Fluticasone inhalation combined with JNC, Fluticasone inhalation alone and JNC alone respectively for 4 weeks. The changes of clinical symptoms, airway reactivity and pulmonary function after treatment were observed. The clinical symptoms, pulmonary function and airway hyper-reactivity were improved in all the three groups after treatment (P<0.05 orP<0.01), but the improvement was more significant in the group treated with the combined therapy (P<0.05 orP< 0.01). Fluticasone inhalation ombined with JNC orally taken is an effective therapy in treating patients of chronic asthma of moderate degree.
